The main components of the Scrum methodology
Going on with the posts about Scrum for project management, today we will share a note on the main components of the Scrum methodology. There are four terms that you certainly must know to manage a development project respecting the principles of said methodology.
Product backlog: what it is and how it works in my MyTaskPanel
The Product Backlogs correspond to the features that make up or could make up the system to be developed; they are the user stories, descriptions of each functionality to be implemented.
In MyTaskPanel, you can create an agile project and a first folder, named product backlogs, with all those characteristics that you want to include to achieve the desired product. You upload one by one in the card format to be contemplated later during the project management. You can then structure the project in the iterations you need; and later, transform the created product backlogs into sprint backlogs within each particular iteration.
Sprint backlog: what it is and how it works in MyTaskPanel
The Sprint Backlog is a feature developed within a sprint (iteration). The aforementioned product backlogs can be broken down into several sprint backlogs, which are those associated with a sprint, at a specific iteration. Some sprint backlogs can be part of a first sprint and others end in a next iteration.
MyTaskPanel allows you to drag each card of each product backlog (without date) from the Product Backlogs folder to the iteration in which it will be developed. In complex cases, it is possible to create sprint backlogs associated with the original product backlog, with the different characteristics that will be worked on in that iteration.
Scrum board: what it is and how it works in MyTaskPanel
The Scrum Board is the blackboard where the iterations are organized. It reflects the specific state of a sprint at each moment. And it usually contains pending work, tasks that are being done, and work already done.
In MyTaskPanel, you can visualize a Kanban-style board, organized in columns or groups, which you have the possibility to designate as better suits you. Here you will load the tasks with a priority, a person in charge, a description, a due date and a number of story points (measure of effort in MyTaskPanel).
Sprints: what they are and how they work in MyTaskPanel
Sprints are productive development cycles, also known as iterations. They can last between one and four weeks. In each of them, the sprint backlogs that will be worked on are displayed. In Scrum, only the sprint in progress is usually planned, to gain flexibility and agility. However, each company could handle it as it deems best.
In the Agile Project tree of MyTaskPanel, stages with multiple iterations can be created within that tree. It is possible to structure the project in different phases and compose each phase of one or more sprints. Even if what is going to be executed is not defined, you could plan all the sprints by dates from the beginning, to comply with the scheduled schedule if there is one.
Now that you know the main components of the Scrum methodology and how they appear in MyTaskPanel, we invite you to try our tool for free and see how easy it can be to approach Scrum.
