7 tips for managing a website development project

proyecto de desarrollo de website

If you want or need to carry out a website development project, there are 7 steps or actions that you can follow in your management tool to achieve the desired result.

Below, we quote that list which has been useful to us, using a methodology similar to Scrum:

1. Create the project with assigned dates

When creating the project, always remember to enter the start and due date, as well as an estimated end date if you wish. The purpose of this is to define the project time and then measure the deviations.

2. Use an unassigned sprint to get organized

If you have product backlogs without assigned managers and that are not associated with any particular iteration, you can use a sprint without an assigned date to organize them and have them on hand when you need them.

3. Determine the sprints that the project will have

It is essential that before moving forward you dedicate yourself to diagramming all the sprints of the project to have a global overview of the tasks to be carried out. Each sprint should have a start date and an end date. This should not necessarily be taken as a contradiction with Scrum, since you would not be assigning tasks (sprint backlogs) to those sprints, but rather putting together the “big picture” of the project. Plan, if you wish, only the next sprint to do.

4. Use the different views of the project

When you use a tool with which you can see your project with different views, it is best that you use them. In this way, you could visualize the tasks according to different categories, namely: in progress, finished and not started; assigned to a specific user or unassigned (ideal for leveling the workload of team members).

5. Look at the charts and analytics

During the development of the project, review the graphs and analytics that your tool has. Among them, it can be a Timeline and/or a Dashboard with a summary of the entire project in different indicators (number of tasks by dates or planning, by group or by status, by label, by users, etc.).

6. Check the Calendar

A good option to observe the tasks is the Calendar. You will be able to find them by their due dates and discover if they are expired, finished, with a planned date or in progress.

7. Check your Inbox

To have a quick access to your tasks, take advantage of the inbox of the management software you are using and check what your tasks for the day and for the week are. We recommend you to take a look at it in the first hour to know what and how your work day will go.
